Hello! My name is James Monk, and I am a passionate English language coach with over 18 years of experience in helping students achieve their English language goals. My journey has been anything but ordinary, and it’s this unique blend of experiences that makes me not just a teacher, but a guide, a mentor, and someone who understands the transformative power of language.
A World Traveller and English Language Coach
Born and raised in the UK, I made a life-changing decision at the age of 30 to pack up my life and explore the world. Fast forward 28 years, and I’ve travelled to 43 countries, living in some and passing through others, soaking up cultures, languages, and experiences that have shaped the way I coach English today. Before my travels, I ran a successful business called SIS (Speedy Repair Service), where I repaired domestic appliances and managed a team of five engineers. This early venture taught me the value of hard work, communication, and adaptability — qualities that I carry into my role as an English language coach.
From the Corporate World to English Language Coaching
My career took a corporate turn when I joined Canon Inc. as an account manager, followed by a similar role at IBM. While these positions were professionally rewarding, they left me yearning for something more meaningful. A dramatic event in my life became the catalyst for change. I sold my house, my cars, and almost all my possessions, and I left the UK to embark on a new chapter. This decision led me to my true calling: becoming an English language coach.
Teaching English Across the Globe
I earned my first teaching qualification in 1992, followed by further certifications in 2019 and 2020. Teaching has taken me to fascinating corners of the world. In Egypt, I balanced two roles: as a diving instructor and as an English teacher. I even started a radio station called Radio Sharm, which became a local hit. However, life took another dramatic turn during the Egyptian Revolution. On the advice of a trusted friend, I sold the radio station and left the country just in time.
From Egypt, I moved to Russia, where I spent several years teaching in Moscow. My journey then led me to Cambodia and finally to Vietnam, where I have been living and teaching for several years. Along the way, I’ve gained invaluable teaching experience and earned additional qualifications to stay at the forefront of English language coaching.

Over the years, I have honed my expertise in teaching English to managers, directors, and professionals from international and national companies. My students come from all over the world, including Israel, Monaco, Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, and even the United States. I’ve also had the pleasure of teaching their children, helping them build a strong foundation in English from an early age.
